Aromatherapy
Aromatherapy is a powerful form of alternative medicine. Blends of essential oils are used in Aromatherapy to improve the psychological and physical well being of the patient. Aromatherapy is widely used in Europe as complimentary medical care. The boom in the popularity of Aromatherapy can be attributed to growing trend of seeking holistic natural healing solutions and the pursuit for tranquility in the hustle of modern life. Studies have shown that Aromatherapy may provide health benefits such as relief from anxiety and depression, ease side effects from medications administered for chronic conditions, help with alopecia areata (hair loss condition), promote concentration, improve sleep and reduce pain. Aromatherapy uses pure essential oils derived from various parts of plants. The concentrated oils are being inhaled or applied to the skin through massage. The scents stimulate the smell receptors, which send messages through the nervous system to the limbic system – the part of the brain that controls emotions.
Aromatherapy treatments are generally safe, however, please be aware that essential oils may cause allergic reactions and skin irritation in certain sensitive individuals.
